Everyone get prepared!

We are all in the midst of a winter storm watch around here and they say the ice is coming this afternoon. I remember the last time I went through an ice storm in Kentucky. I think my Granny over in Carter County was without power for 3 weeks. Thank goodness they had a generator. I'm hoping we don't lose our power, because we don't have a generator on the farm and it would sure suck to be without any source of power. Not that we couldn't survive, but it would sure be tough.

The very first ice storm I can remember going through happened to us when we lived in Salem, Oregon in the 1990s. We went into the mall in downtown Salem and it was raining. We came out an hour later and practically skated to our car before making the slippery drive back to our home in Keizer. It was weird. No, correct me - it is weird when it happens. Everything is so darned beautiful but so darned destructive at the same time. The very next day after the ice storm in Oregon it was like 60 degrees warmer - it melted everything instantly and we dealt with severe flooding. At least here in Kentucky we don't have a snowpack that can rapidly melt and cause a flood.

Well, I'm getting ready to head to Irvine and get some last minute things. If this storm hits as forecast, I doubt I'll be making a trip off the farm tomorrow. So at least we won't run out of necessities ... you know those things.... pepsi, munchies, etc. Ha ha ha. Have a great Monday everyone - and remember to be weather aware. It sounds like this storm will drastically drop our temperatures. Be prepared!
