I just got done watching Lex18 News at Noon (www.lex18.com) and it's just so depressing to see what goes on in the world. It makes me want to stay close to home even more, and that probably wouldn't be a good thing, at least for Dave anyway!
Today's news started off with bad weather - and not just here, it's everywhere! We're expecting freezing rain today, but I doubt we get it here at the farm. Seems as if we have some type of dome that covers the farm. But that's another story, and I won't go there today. Not so for my dear sister, daughter, granddaughter and tons of friends in the West. The valley where I was born got about a foot of snow yesterday and that's pretty rare. It snows on the mountains surrounding Lewiston, but the valley rarely gets snow. Not this year. And check out Seattle and Portland, the I-5 corridor must be one heck of a mess. From my experience living in Salem, I can only imagine the 'fun' they are all having.
The one upside - think of the snow skiing the people in the west will have this year! Makes my mouth water to think about it. Although you can't ski when it's dumping the amounts that the resorts are getting right now. At least you can't ski and have fun. Not me at least. If I'm going to pay 45-50 dollars for a ticket, I want to enjoy myself. The last ski trip we took out West was the deciding factor in that. We hauled our skis all the way from Kentucky out West to do some visiting and hopefully, a day of skiing. Spent about a week there and 'finally' got a spare minute to go up to Mount Spokane. It was horrible weather ... snowing, windy, yucky weather. I decided then and there, I'd never ski on a lousy day again.
Of course, we haven't skied in the East yet. We drove up to Perfect Slopes in Indiana one time. Drove up to the hill and looked. It hadn't snowed much at that time, was a pretty slow year and it looked to us like all the snow was just manmade. Not enticing enough to spend the bucks to try it, at least not that day. My problem was that you could actually ski off the side of the run and be in the dirt and grass. I don't trust Dave's skiing enough to risk that! I mean, you gotta love him, but he's pretty much a maniac on the hill. And we can't risk a broken bone when it's just Dave and I running this paper! Just can't do it. We also found a place over in West Virginia that we'd like to try out ... maybe later this winter. Especially if we get a good winter!
Gee, I sat down here to talk to all of you and suddenly I'm not so depressed anymore..... guess that's one of the joys of blogging! Or is it that my mind just wanders off someplace..... ha ha ha
Keep in touch everyone, let me know you've been here! And stay safe today - and always.
