What a winter we've had. And it's not even half over is it? The ice storm that hit us last week is still wreaking havoc across the state. I really feel for people without power. We lost it for about 36 hours and it wasn't a whole lot of fun. But it was manageable. Thank goodness Dad has a gas stove so we were able to eat pretty well. We even figured out how to make coffee on a kerosene heater!
It's so unfortunate to hear of all the deaths across the state. And so many from freezing to death! I'm sure a percentage of those deaths were the homeless, but that doesn't make it any better does it? A human being froze to death. In 2009 - it's hard to fathom. But from our experience last week, most elderly people will not ask for help. They think they'll be okay, but tend to make wrong decisions. If you know of neighbors who are without power, please check on them. They may have people checking on them, but then again they may not. And wouldn't it be horrible to find out a neighbor had died.
It's really spitting snow right now. They say we may even get up to 4 inches. Wow. As much as I'm a snow lover and would love to see it, it's just not what we need right now. These poor people struggling to stay warm with no power don't need any more added troubles to deal with. But, if it does snow 4 inches, Dave will be making his run down runway hill...... so keep checking back. I'll post pictures when he makes his 'historic' run down the hill!
Be safe everyone and have a wonderful day wherever you may be.
